This is part of a derelict tramp steamer grounded on the eastern side of the river Torridge. It reminds me very much of the tramp steamers to be seen in numerous Hollywood films. as with other paintings in the series I choose a section of the boat and use this in a composition that reduces depth of field and almost lets the detail construct a flat surface pattern.

My love of old ships reflects my upbringing in Liverpool and the emotive bustle of a busy port. The old ships also typify those to be found in many West Country ports and harbours recording and reflecting the activities of those ports.
