The Celtic Crusader is an aggregate carrying ship and I have attempted the synthesis of abstract pattern with detail.

This ship comes to my home town of Bideford to collect clay. When it's hold doors are open they raise up against the superstructure of the ship. From the stern this operation of the hold doors creates a dark backdrop to the detail of the ship. This pictorially limits the depth of field, it is this that I have tried to capture. My painting started with drawings and small studies together with some photographic reference material.
